Is it too early to really begin diving into the 2019 NFL Draft? Whether we agree with or not, that’s the trend every year and 2019 will be no different as mock drafts are already cropping up in every corner of the interweb.

Such was the case for our good friends over at Draft Wire, who wasted literally no time in publishing their first mock draft of the new year on — you guessed it — New Year’s Day.

So what did they project for the New York Giants? Why a quarterback, of course.

Here’s what Draft Wire had to say about Haskins and what his pick would mean to the Giants:

It’s long past time for the Giants to replace Eli Manning, and barring another team trading ahead of them, they should have their pick of this year’s top passers. Haskins was my top QB prospect in this class even before Oregon’s Justin Herbert decided to return for his senior season, and he’s well worth this pick.

Of course, drafting Haskins wouldn’t immediately “replace” Manning. Odds are, Manning will not only return in 2019, but could do so on an extended contract. And even with a rookie quarterback, he’d still be all but guaranteed a starting job.

Still, Haskins is an interesting potential target because he could very well be available at No. 6 overall and because he’s a long-time fan of Big Blue.

“It would be pretty nice,” Haskins told the New York Post. “I played ‘Madden’ a lot, and was really good running the football. The whole offense was nice. Plaxico , Jeremy Shockey, Eli , Ahmad Bradshaw. I was basically the stats guy from my family. I would know everybody’s height and weight, what college they went to.

“I’ve been a Giants fan for a long time.”
