Aldrick Rosas humble in receiving ‘shocking’ Pro Bowl honors

Heading into the 2018 season, few would have expected Aldrick Rosas to be in the premier rank of NFL kickers, let alone one of the best in the league. That being said, Rosas put his 2017 in the past, worked with a former Giants pro bowl kicker and trusted the support of his organization, all leading to being named the NFC’s Pro Bowl kicker for 2018.

“I don’t know how to describe it – shocking,” Rosas said on Wednesday. “Just to get that support and votes from my peers and the fans, and everybody in the building, this organization just being behind me. It’s real special.”

The combination of working day-by-day and taking a different mental approach is what turned the Southern Oregon NAIA college athlete into the best kicker in the NFC. And the ever so humble Rosas is letting the feeling sink in.

“It’s starting to kind of hit now in these last couple of hours, and even last night,” he said. “Just how, NAIA and small high school, just to last year, to kind of now. The story is still kind of getting written. When you’re around a great group of guys, a great organization, great fans, it’s just a huge blessing.”

John Carney, former Giants kicker who went to two Pro Bowls in 1994 (with the San Diego Chargers) and 2008, trained with Rosas in the offseason, and was credited for turning around a part-physical problem and a part-mental problem.

“Just to sit down with him and talk about every little situation,” Rosas said. “It was great just to sit down with him and really pick his brain about everything and all the situations that happened. I really learned a lot.”

Rosas has jumped off the stat sheet this season, hitting 28-of-29 field goals and 25-of-26 extra points thus far.
