Archie Manning says Eli Manning wants to stay with Giants

Eli Manning has been the Giants quarterback for the past 15 years, and his father says the two-time Super Bowl champion wants to remain a Giant.

When TMZ asked Archie Manning if he thought he would ever see Eli wearing another uniform, he responded, “I know he doesn’t want to.”

The 37-year-old Manning, who has started 222 of New York’s last 223 games dating back to 2004, has been on the hot seat as Giants quarterback. Head coach Pat Shurmur only guaranteed his starting status for Monday’s game against the 49ers but did not say who would definitely be under center Week 11 against Tampa Bay.

Archie said he was hopeful the Giants could turn things around in the second half after their 1-7 start to the season, but when asked about the root of their struggles, he replied, “I’m not going to get into it.”

Manning has recorded a 41.8 quarterback rating through eight games this season, which is his lowest since 2013 (39.3). His numbers suggest he’s been on the decline for several years now, and this season he’s thrown for just 2,377 yards, eight touchdowns and six interceptions.

“Eli’s theory is kinda, ‘Go win a game.’ So, that’s kinda mine too,” Archie said. “Hopefully, they can go win a game and win another game.”

Archie said while Manning, who would carry a $23.2 million cap hit next season, his last under contract, is among the oldest active quarterbacks in the league, he has a lot left in the tank.

“Eli, I always said a quarterback north of 35 can play, if he’s healthy, as long as his team’s good,” Archie said. “Last couple of years we haven’t been that good, so hopefully, they can turn that around second half of the season.”
