He’s already on the Yankees. How about the Giants?
There are a million hurdles, the biggest being the Seahawks ever letting Russell Wilson slip away. But according to a former NFC West rival, the superstar quarterback wants the Big Apple.
As more and more smoke billows out about Wilson’s true desires, weeks after he issued an ultimatum for a long-term extension with Seattle, former Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu claimed to have some insider knowledge.
“Russ wants New York,” the now Chiefs defensive back tweeted early Sunday. “But you ain’t heard that from T..”
Indeed, we did it from T, and we have heard similar rumors from others. Former Jaguars and Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said last week, “Don’t be surprised” if Wilson is traded this offseason. Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd has speculated that Wilson’s wife, pop-star Ciara, believes New York is better for her career.
With Sam Darnold on the Jets, the rumors have long connected Wilson with the Giants.
For now at least, the rumors are merely just that. Last month, Wilson did not sound as if he were finished with the Seahawks.
“The reality is a lot of guys move, but for me, I love Seattle,’’ Wilson said at Yankees spring training. “I won a Super Bowl there, been to two, won a lot of playoff games. I love being there. As far as trades or being moved, you can never be surprised. I have a clear mindset of how much I love Seattle.”
