Body found near where 49ers fan disappeared after Giants game

A body was found in Bay Area waters near where an ardent San Francisco 49ers fan vanished during a game against the New York Giants.

Ian Powers, 32, was at the Nov. 12 game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara with his girlfriend, Chelsea Robbins, and her two kids when he got up to use the restroom during the fourth quarter and never returned, local outlets reported.

“He went to the bathroom and then got lost, or something happened,” Robbins told KGO-TV on Friday.

Robbins couldn’t find Powers when she left the stadium, though she’d texted him a place to meet up, she told Santa Clara police.

Authorities released surveillance video showing Powers, a US Army veteran from Spokane, Washington, leaving the stadium around 8:52 p.m. and walking on a footbridge with many other fans. Officials tracked his cellphone to a nearby parking lot, where his car was also found.

He was last seen wearing a red 49ers cap and T-shirt.

“It’s incredibly unlike him,” Sean Powers told the outlet of his nephew leaving the stadium without his girlfriend and her children. “I’ve said this before, he’s probably the most responsible person in my family.”

On Saturday, fishermen recovered a body from waters near the Alviso Marina Boat Launch, about two miles from the football stadium, the outlet reported.

The body has yet to be identified.
