Modeling seems to run in Chanel Iman’s family.
“Oh she’s a natural, it’s crazy,” Iman — who is married to New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard — told Page Six Style on Monday at a cocktail party celebrating 21c Museum Hotels joining the MGallery Hotel Collection. “She’s such a happy child that it’s so easy to capture her.”
Iman, who made her magazine debut on the cover of Teen Vogue in 2007 alongside Karlie Kloss and Ali Michael, is happy to share the spotlight with her daughter. “I’ve done this for my career for more than 10 years and it was just a special moment that I can be proud of when she grows older. She can look back and be proud of her mother as well,” she said.
As far as future modeling projects, Chanel says the sky’s the limit for Cali, who already has 35,000 followers on Instagram as well as agents and companies trying to book her. “She’s been to a fashion show, and we got some really cool things coming up for her,” Iman said. “People have been calling left and right for her and I’m like, ‘Dang, she’s getting more bookings than me!’ She’s just a happy baby, so it’s easy for people to fall in love with her.”
While Cali may have a future as the next top model, mom Chanel wouldn’t mind trying her hand at designing instead of walking the runway. In fact, she told us she’d love to work with a fashion brand to create a mommy-and-me clothing line.
In the meantime, Shepard recently signed a $41 million contract to stay with the Giants. The two celebrated with a night out at Ascent Lounge and Scarpetta with friends. While Shepard attends training camp with the team to get ready for the fall season, Chanel and Cali will be getting geared up at home. Chanel said, “I gotta get her some custom jerseys so that we can support her dad the right way!”
