Teams says cornerback “will be with us when it’s appropriate”
New York Giants rookie cornerback Corey Ballentine is out of the hospital and expected make a full recovery after being injured in a weekend shooting that claimed the life of his friend and teammate Dwane Simmons. The sixth-round pick is not, however, expected to attend the team’s rookie’ mini-camp later this week.
Per a statement from the team that has been reported by multiple media sources:
“We have been in communication with Corey since Sunday. We have encouraged Corey to stay in Kansas this week to be with his family and friends as they mourn the loss and celebrate the life of his good friend and teammate Dwane Simmons. “Corey will be with us when it’s appropriate.”
Rookies report to the Giants’ facility on Thursday. They will be on the field Friday and Saturday to begin their NFL careers.
