Details on Giants QB Daniel Jones’ conversation about New York reunion with Zion Williamson

One New York team drafted a tall Duke star in the first round.

Will the Knicks be the second?

The Knicks will find out on May 14 whether they win the draft lottery (and ultimately the Zion Williamson sweepstakes), but for now, New York has one former Blue Devil who may be the next face of the franchise: Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.

Speaking at his introductory press conference Friday morning, Jones said he and Williamson have spoken about the possibility that the two of them could both be in New York together.

“We talked a little bit about that this week,” Jones said. “That’d be a cool deal. We’ll see if it happens.”

Williamson, 18, is the consensus top prospect in an NBA draft class that will also feature Ja Morant and R.J. Barrett, among others. He was the Wooden Award and Naismith Award winner, as well as a consensus All-American for a Duke squad that made it to the Elite Eight.

At 6-foot-7, 285 pounds, Williamson was one of the most dominant players in college as a freshman, averaging 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.

Of course, Jones isn’t a slouch by any stretch either. He measured 6-foot-5 and 221 pounds at the NFL combine and is, Giants GM Dave Gettleman hopes, the next Giants quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

While Jones was a redshirt junior before entering the draft and Williamson a freshman, he said he did get to know Williamson a little bit while they were at Duke.

“He’s a special guy,” Jones said.
