DL Kerry Wynn signs with Cincinnati Bengals — report

The Giants lose reserve defensive lineman Kerry Wynn to the Cincinnati Bengals

The New York Giants are losing one of their longest-tenured players as ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that defensive lineman Kerry Wynn is signing with the Cincinnati Bengals.

While never a splashy player, Wynn has been a favorite of several coaching staffs for his work ethic and relentless motor. The Giants originally signed Wynn as an undrafted free agent out of Richmond after the 2014 draft. Wynn served the Giants well as a reserve (and sometimes starting) defensive linemen and a key special teams player in his five years since entering the league.

While not particularly athletic, Wynn is dependable in run defense and capable of being disruptive when playing defensive tackle in nickel situations. He transitioned well into James Bettcher’s scheme, as the 5-technique position in the base defense suited his talents.

The Giants will likely move 2018 draftee RJ McIntosh into Wynn’s role in the defensive line rotation, and probably look to continue to add depth to their front seven with their many selections on the third day of the draft.
