Dwayne Haskins continues to show love for Giants

Dwayne Haskins certainly is not shy about his desire to play with the Giants.

The Ohio State quarterback grew up watching the Giants and would have no problem assuming a role behind Eli Manning as a backup if he were to be selected by the team he rooted for as a child.

“I would love it,” he said, per Tom Rock of Newsday. “I grew up watching Eli Manning back when he had [Jeremy] Shockey and [Amani] Toomer and Plaxico [Burress]. I loved that team.”

Haskins, who said he will be happy wherever he ends up, certainly seems to be enamored with the Giants moreso any other team.

Prior to declaring for the draft, the New Jersey native said “it would be pretty nice” if Giants drafted him. He also posted an Instagram photoshop of himself in a Giants jersey last month, although, he did one for several other teams too.

Haskins is widely considered the top quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft, but whether or not the Giants are interested in him with the No. 6 is still questionable.

The New York Post reported the Giants prefer to select a quarterback and have him learn under Manning for his rookie year before taking over as the 38-year-old’s successor, but even that plan is not set in stone as they continue to evaluate Haskins and other prospects they may consider.

Haskins, who set Big Ten and school records last season, has just one college season under his belt which raises some concerns about whether or not he is ready for the NFL.

Yet sitting behind a veteran quarterback such as Manning for a season may benefit him and former NFL coach Steve Marriuci agrees.

“Eli’s not done and for somebody to sit behind Eli for even a year would be a huge benefit,” he said, per Rock. “Just like Patrick Mahomes did with Alex Smith. Would be terrific. Like Aaron Rodgers had with Brett Favre. It would be terrific. Nobody wants to go three years but to sit behind somebody is a luxury.”
