Predicted first-rounder will meet with Giants Thursday

Georgia left tackle Andrew Thomas is widely predicted to be taken in the first round of April’s NFL Draft.

Thomas spoke highly of himself when prompted by reporters Wednesday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis,

“I think I’m all-around the best,” said the 21-year-old. “I can run block, I can pass block, I’m coachable, I’m a technician. That’s what makes me the best.”

When asked to give NFL player comps, Thomas compared himself to the likes of Tyron Smith and Trent Williams, two of the most dominant tackles over the last five to seven years.

“I think I’m a mix of Tyron Smith and Trent Williams. Trent Williams because of his athleticism and Tyron Smith because of how consistent his set is no matter who he’s playing,” said Thomas.

Thomas started his college career at right tackle during his freshman year, then transitioned to left tackle after Isaiah Wynn left. He played left tackle for the last two years.

He said it’s a competition among all tackles at the Combine.

“I work hard and I want to be the best every day. Why would you be doing this if you don’t want to be the best? So every day I train I want to be the best,” Thomas said. “Obviously all these guys are talented so I’m just trying my best to show what I can do.”

The lineman was also asked how he might like to play in New York, having a high chance at being selected early by either the Giants or Jets.

“That would be crazy. You guys know I signed with ROC Nation so I’ve been up there a couple times and New York is a nice city,” Thomas said. “Met with the Jets, just a lot of fun, breaking down my film and critiquing my techniques. I have a formal with the Giants Thursday.”

While Thomas was sure about his ability on the gridiron, he was a little more modest when asked about his ability to play the piano, one of his off-field interests.

“If I had to rate myself 1 to 10, I’m probably a five right now. I’m still working on it. It’s just something that I enjoy.”
