The Giants appear set to sign RT Mike Remmers
The New York Giants have agreed in principle to a contract with free agent offensive tackle Mike Remmers.
At least that is what Remmers’ agent, Brett Tessler, has tweeted.
Happy to announce that Mike Remmers just agreed in principle to a deal with the New York Giants and is looking forward to moving back to his natural position of right tackle. His last 2 seasons playing that position he helped his teams to a Super Bowl and a NFC Championship game.

It was long expected that the Giants would sign Remmers at some point this offseason after bringing him in for a physical earlier in the free agency period.
Remmers was previously signed by Dave Gettleman when he was the GM of the Carolina Panthers. After leaving the Panthers, he was signed with the Minnesota Vikings and played under Pat Shurmur, who was first quarterback coach then offensive coordinator. With his history with both men and the Giants’ tendency toward players with whom their coaches are already familiar, it seemed inevitable that the Giants would sign Remmers.
Remmers comes with some risk for the Giants as 30-year old player coming off of back surgery and a poor season out of position as a right guard. The last time Remmers was at offensive tackle, 2017, he had a blown block rate of 2.39 percent, as compared to the 2.47 percent of pass blocks Chad Wheeler blew in 2018.
Only time will tell if Wheeler has been able to use this off-season to improve enough to keep his starting job, or if he will lose it to Remmers (or perhaps George Asafo-Adjei). Regardless of who is starting the games, the Giants will need to be better at the right tackle position.
