Zac Taylor was one of the last NFL head coaching hires, having had to wait until post-Super Bowl LIII to take the head coaching job of the Cincinnati Bengals.

On Thursday, Taylor has made one of his first big hires, as the Bengals named now-former New York Giants defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo their next defensive coordinator.

“I’ve always had great respect for Lou, and I know he is a tremendous defensive coach,” new Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said in a statement. “He’s a great fit for what we want to build here at Cincinnati. Lou is an excellent communicator who the players will have great respect for, and he will get the best out of them.”

Before coming to the Giants in 2018, Anarumo spent six seasons as the Miami Dolphins’ defensive backs coach. He was also the Dolphins’ interim defensive coordinator during the 2015 season.

Before his time in the NFL, Anarumo spent seven years as the defensive backs coach for Purdue University, making the Bengals’ defensive coordinator job his first big promotion to a top assistant position at any level in football.

Anarumo and Taylor worked together with the Dolphins from 2012-2015.
