Giants fire two longtime scouts ahead of NFL Draft: report

The Giants, and in particular GM Dave Gettleman, have Ryan Jones and Donnie Etheridge, two longtime area scouts for the team, per reports that The New York Post was able to confirm.

Jones had been with the Giants over the last 20 years, and was assigned the northeast region by Gettleman when he arrived in 2018, while Etheridge was brought on 19 years ago and was given the southwest by Gettleman.

With the Giants sitting on the No. 4 pick and three Top 100 picks overall in this year’s NFL Draft, Gettleman and his front office want to make sure they get things right and turn this ship around. The Giants have picked in the Top 10 in four of the last five years, and in the Top 6 the last two.

With the NFL Combine taking place this week in Indianapolis, Gettleman likely felt he needed to make the cuts he deemed appropriate before things got too far along in the draft process.

In addition to letting the scouts go, the Giants have added Amos Jones to Joe Judge‘s coaching staff as an assistant.

Jones has been referred to as one of Judge’s mentors, having been the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach at Mississippi State in 2004 when Judge played there and from 2005 to 2007 when he was a graduate assistant coach.

Judge’s “mentor” is expected to work closely with him and could potentially serve as a game day manager.
