Giants general manager Dave Gettleman has had enough of people criticizing Eli Manning.
During a conference call on Monday, Gettleman launched a staunch defense of Manning, who will receive his $5 million roster bonus on Monday.
“This narrative that Eli’s overpaid and can’t play is a crock,” Gettleman said.
Manning carries one of the biggest cap hits in the NFL at $23.2 million. He’s 38 years old and the Giants have won a total of eight games over their last two seasons.
But Manning isn’t the problem, Gettleman insists. He says offensive-line improvement over the second half of the 2018 showed Manning can still play. So there was no consideration to get rid of or alter Manning’s contract.
“The way he finished the season and what he’s making, there really wasn’t a decision to make,” Gettleman said.
