Giants GM Dave Gettleman is trying to cut off another offseason of Odell Beckham Jr. trade rumors.
A year ago, speculation of the star receiver’s future dominated headlines with the Rams seen as the most interested suitor. That talk came to an end when the Giants signed Beckham to a five-year, $95 million extension in August, but returned as the team stumbling to a 5-11 season.
Pro Football Talk suggested the 49ers could be poised to make a run at Beckham if the Giants made him available. But that does not appear to be in Gettleman’s plans.
“We didn’t sign him to trade him,” Gettleman told reporters on Wednesday.
One the field, Beckham was having a fine 2018 season with 77 catches for 1.052 yards and six touchdowns before missing the final four games with a quad injury. Off the field, however, he was criticized for an ESPN interview in which he criticized quarterback Eli Manning and head coach Pat Shurmur.
