- Daniel Jones has been officially ruled out. Eli Manning will start at quarterback. Alex Tanney will be active as the No. 2 quarterback.
“He (Jones) feels a little bit caged up, quite frankly,” coach Pat Shurmur said. “He’s frustrated that he can’t. But that’s the way it goes. We all know players get injured at times, and they have to fight their way back. The one thing I like about his demeanor is he’s frustrated, wants to play and doing everything in his power. We get here very similar time, in the 5 o’clock hour, and he’s getting treatment. He’s doing everything he can to get ready to play, and that’s a good thing when you see a guy want it so badly.”
Shurmur didn’t commit to Jones playing next week when the Giants host the Miami Dolphins.
“We’ll have to see,” Shurmur said. “He didn’t practice this week, and we’ll just have to see when we come back to practice next Wednesday how much he can do. Then we’ll take it from there.”
- Safety Jabrill Peppers (transverse process fracture) and defensive end Chris Peace (knee) have been placed on injured reserve. Safety Sean Chandler has been signed off the practice squad to replace Peppers. Chandler, a second-year player, was waived by and then signed to the practice squad a few weeks ago. He played nine games for the Giants earlier this season. Chandler played in all 16 games for the Giants a season ago. Veteran edge defender Kareem Martin has been activated off injured reserve to replace Peace.
- Tight ends Evan Engram (foot) and Rhett Ellison (concussion) will be out again. There had been optimism that Engram, who has missed the last three games would play.
“I was really excited about this week,” Engram said. “I felt really good at the beginning of the week, felt really good in my rehab prior to the week. As the week went by, I just wasn’t ready. I made some progress but I’m not ready. … No setbacks, like I said just not ready. I couldn’t really do what I do and not ready.”
- Cornerback Corey Ballentine, dealing with his second concussion of the season, is also out.
