As expected, Giants will be without a great deal of offensive firepower

The New York Giants will be severely under-manned on offense Thursday against the New England Patriots. Saquon Barkley (high ankle sprain), Evan Engram (sprained MCL), Wayne Gallman (concussion) and Sterling Shepard (concussion).

That list, of course, includes the Giants best two running backs and their top two receivers (Engram, 33 catches | Shepard, 25 catches). That is 1,184 yards of total offense (236.8 yards per game) that will be out of the lineup when the 2-3 Giants face the 5-0 Patriots and their league-best defense.

At running back, the Giants will feature undrafted rookie free agent Jon Hilliman and fullback Elijhaa Penny. Undrafted rookie Austin Walter is on the practice squad and could be added for depth prior to Thursday’s game.

At receiver, Golden Tate, Cody Latimer and Darius Slayton figure to be the primary three. Should the Giants make a roster move there, Reggie White Jr., David Sills and Da’Mari Scott are currently on the practice squad. The Giants could also re-sign one of two recently-released veterans, Bennie Fowler or TJ Jones.

At tight end, the Giants have Rhett Ellison, Garrett Dickerson and rookie Kaden Smith. Claimed on waivers from the San Francisco 49ers, Smith, a sixth-round pick by the 49ers, has yet to be active for a game.

The Giants also could be without EDGE defender Lorenzo Carter, who is questionable with a neck injury. Carter did not play Sunday vs. the Minnesota Vikings.

Linebackers Alec Ogletree and Tae Davis, who missed last Sunday’s game vs. Minnesota, are not on the injury report and are expected to play.
