Christmas Day is officially upon us and for fans of the New York Giants, it represents a reprieve from an exceptionally frustrating season which comes on the heels of an even more frustrating season in 2017.
The Giants are 5-10 entering the final week of the season, so there will be no Christmas playoff miracle this year. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Santa will fill their collective stockings with coal. In fact, quite a few are worthy of quality presents.
So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at the naughty or nice list and see who gets what.
Since taking over as the Giants’ general manager, Dave Gettleman has not shied away from making some questionable moves — moves he feels were in the best interest of the team.
That includes trading away defensive tackle Damon Harrison, who would have been exceptionally helpful since the team returned from their bye. But it also includes hanging onto players like kicker Aldrick Rosas, bringing in players like safety Michael Thomas and, of course, the drafting of running back Saquon Barkley.
After questioning his future only a year ago, Eli Manning returned to the Giants in 2018 and has played some of his best football to date.
No, sharing that reality doesn’t jibe with the narrative and is bound to upset those who refuse to acknowledge it, but that blind hatred is not the fault of the two-time Super Bowl MVP. The bottom line is that Manning is playing quality football at this late stage, and he’s doing so behind a below average offensive line.
