Giants news, 6/5: Peppers spicing up practice with some friendly trash talk
Wednesday headlines on Day 2 of mandatory mini-camp
Good morning, New York Giants fans!
Some friendly trash talk
One thing that safety Jabrill Peppers has brought to the Giants is a little in-practice trash talk with the offense.
“Just to see how easy it is to get in guys’ heads,” said Peppers on Tuesday when asked why he does it. “I know how defenses play the game, so if they are used to it in practice, they will be used to it in the game, and to see how they respond. Competition brings the best out in everybody. It never hurts a little bit.”
Wide receiver Sterling Shepard is enjoying the banter.
“I think it’s important for us to go back and forth with each other. That’s what’s going to happen on game day and on the field,” Shepard said. “Then, it just brings out the competitive edge of everyone. We go at it a lot, and I’m not one to back down or shy away from trash talk (laughter). We go at it, but I think it’s all great for the team.”
Coach Pat Shurmur doesn’t mind the chatter.
“It is all in good spirits. They are competitive,” Shurmur said. “If you get into it, compete and are smart about it, it is a good thing. I don’t mind it.”

Giants’ Dexter Lawrence ready to show run-blocking abilities
“I don’t pay too much attention to press, but you hear that some say that I’m just a run-stopper,” Lawrence told The Post. “Or I’m just this, I can’t pass rush that well. You see that stuff. I’m very self-aware, so I know the things I need to work on, for my personal self.”
