Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr. after Pat Shurmur’s tough day: Attacking Eagles ‘wasn’t in our game plan’

The frustration of this season continues to mount for Odell Beckham Jr.

The Giants wide receiver threw some shade at head coach Pat Shurmur following a 25-22 loss to the Eagles on Sunday — which virtually destroyed any hope they had at making a playoff run.

Beckham, who had five catches for 80 yards, hauled in only two for 22 yards in the second half as the Giants offense disappeared — scoring just three points on 51 total yards of offense against an Eagles defense that was completely decimated with injuries in its secondary.

Beckham pointed to Shurmur’s play-calling for why the Giants failed to exploit the inexperienced Eagles secondary.

“Honestly that’s a question for coach. That’s not really my kind of question,” he said. “I don’t call the plays. I just do what I’m told to do and go out there and execute. Whenever I get the opportunity to do something I try to make the most of it. If I don’t have that many opportunities all I can do is do what I can when I do have the opportunity.

“Coming in, knowing that they struggled in the secondary, personally I would’ve loved to attack them. But it wasn’t in our game plan.”

Shurmur, on the other hand, blamed penalties and sacks for the reason why the offense stalled in the second half of the game but only four of their 11 penalties came in that span and Eli Manning was sacked twice.

Shurmur also noted it “doesn’t make any sense to throw it every down when you’ve got a running back like Saquon (Barkley).”

Barkley had 159 total yards at halftime but carried the ball just four times in the second half.
