Having traded away Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns last week, the Giants need to re-stock their receiver corps. They know they cannot not replace the special talent they sent to Cleveland but the do need players to catch passes from Eli Manning. One of those targets, Cody Latimer, will be re-signed.
Latimer announced his return Sunday night on Twitter, posting “Back for seconds!!!. Let’s go big blue!!! Ready to get back to work with the squad!!! Time to finish what I started last season.”
Latimer, 26, made an impression early last season before a hamstring strain in Week 6 put him on injured reserve. He finished his first season with the Giants with 11 receptions for 190 yards and one touchdowns. Latimer spent his first four NFL seasons with the Broncos. He has good size at 6-foot-2 and is a solid special teams player.
After the Beckham trade, the Giants hit the free agent market to sign veteran Golden Tate to a four-year, $37.5 million contract. Tate and Sterling Shepard figure to be the starting receivers.
