Giants S Landon Collins undergoes surgery on left shoulder

Giants S Landon Collins underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder, sources told ESPN.

The 24-year-old Collins, who was placed on season-ending IR last week, is expected to make a full recovery in 4-to-6 months.

While his return to the gridiron in 2019 is probable, it may not come with the Giants.

The two-time Pro Bowler will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, unless the Giants use the franchise tag on him or sign him to a long-term deal.

Collins suffered the injury during the Giants’ Dec. 2 win over the Bears. He returned to the field and toughed it out for the rest of the game. Though X-rays later came back negative, further testing showed there was cause for concern.

Collins has been lauded by multiple teammates since going down with the injury.

“I wouldn’t want to play with anybody other than him at that position,” said fellow safety Michael Thomas, per the New York Post.

Added DL Dalvin Tomlinson: “Landon is a huge part of our defense and it’s tough to replace that void.”

Collins had missed only one game over three-plus NFL seasons prior to the shoulder injury. Through 12 games this season, he led the Giants with 96 tackles and a forced fumble.
