Giants’ Saquon Barkley named PFWA Offensive Rookie of the Year

Giants RB Saquon Barkley was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year by the Professional Football Writers of America on Tuesday.

Barkley was always a top candidate for Rookie of the Year after a remarkable season with Big Blue. He broke numerous league and franchise records including most receptions by a rookie running back (91), first Giants rookie to rush for over 1,000 yards (1,307), and becoming the third rookie running back in NFL history to eclipse 2,000 scrimmage yards.

The PFWA votes on three separate rookie awards every season — offensive, defensive, and overall Rookie of the Year. Browns QB Baker Mayfield was named the overall Rookie of the Year, while Colts LB Darius Leonard was named the Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The official AP Rookie of the Year Award will be revealed at the 8th annual NFL Honors on Feb. 2 — the night before the Super Bowl. Mayfield and Barkley are the top candidates for Offensive Rookie of the Year, and if the PFWA voting says anything, it will certainly be a close call to see who comes away with the award.
