Could the New York Giants address both their problems along the offensive line and their lack of pass rushers in Round 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft? It seems like that would be a stretch, but our friends at Draft Wire recently laid out a scenario in which that could happen.

In a four-round mock draft with projected trades, Draft Wire has the Giants ending up with two first-round picks — the first going towards an offensive lineman.

6. New York Giants | Jonah Williams | OT | Alabama

Two quarterbacks are off the board already, and I don’t see an old-school general manager like Dave Gettleman spending a top-10 pick on a dual-threat quarterback like Kyler Murray to groom behind veteran Eli Manning. Instead, Gettleman will build through the trenches, giving Manning some improved protection with the experienced and versatile Williams.

The second comes after a trade with the Los Angeles Rams costs the Giants several picks, but they ultimately do something they have done in over a decade — select a linebacker in Round 1.

31. New York Giants (from LAR)* | Mack Wilson | LB | Alabama

After helping out Eli Manning with their top-10 pick, the Giants trade a Day 2 pick in next year’s draft (and a Day 3 pick in this year’s) to move back into the first round for a defensive playmaker. Wilson is still a bit raw, but there’s no denying his combination of athleticism and physicality, which makes him a strong value pick here.

The cost of the first-round haul would mean no second-round or third-round pick for the Giants, with the second rounder going to the Rams and the third rounder having been used on cornerback Sam Beal in the 2018 Supplemental Draft.

The Giants would get back on the clock in Round 4, where they’d again address their defense.

108. New York Giants | Isaiah Buggs | DL | Alabama

132. New York Giants (from NO) | Jimmy Moreland | CB | James Madison

How would you feel about this haul, Giants fans? There’s no franchise quarterback in waiting, but the offensive line and defense would have several new and much-needed parts.
