Giants sign Markus Golden to a 1-year deal

The Giants sign EDGE Markus Golden to bolster their anemic pass rush

After being mostly catatonic for the first 26 hours of free agency, the New York Giants have suddenly found their checkbook.

Thursday evening it was announced that the Giants had signed former Arizona Cardinals EDGE Markus Golden to a 1-year contract.

The Giants were in desperate need of pass rushing help after trading Olivier Vernon, their best EDGE, to the Cleveland Browns along with Odell Beckham Jr.

The 28-year-old Golden presents a low-risk with a potentially high reward, as he racked up 12.5 sacks playing for James Bettcher in 2016 before tearing his ACL in 2017. The signing reunites Golden and Bettcher, while also potentially aiding an anemic Giants’ pass rush. On Golden’s side of things, this is an opportunity to prove that he is once again a productive pass rusher when he re-enters the free agent market next year at 29 years old.

The signing of Golden is the latest in a flurry of activity that has included the official signing of safety Antoine Bethea [Story] and wide receiver Golden Tate [Story]
