How Broncos trading for Joe Flacco could impact Giants

The Baltimore Ravens agreed in principle on Wednesday in a trade to send quarterback Joe Flacco to the Denver Broncos, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter

The trade could have a ripple effect across the league on teams in the market for a quarterback, particularly the New York Giants.

If the Giants are serious about taking a quarterback in the NFL Draft, the Flacco trade appears to eliminate the possibility of the Broncos trading up ahead of the Giants at the No. 6 pick to take their guy.

Yet it may not totally affect the Broncos’ plans of drafting a quarterback at the No. 10 pick at all, according to SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano

Vacchiano wrote on Tuesday that Denver owner John Elway is “first-round-quarterback-crazy” and is believed to be enamored with Missouri QB Drew Lock.

Flacco is 34 years old and it is entirely possible Elway still opts for a quarterback at the No. 10 pick to wait in the wings behind the former Super Bowl MVP.

Flacco has three years remaining under his contract, so they would likely release him after the 2019 or even 2020 season if they were to go this route.

This would impact the Giants if they were to pass on a quarterback with the sixth pick and try to take someone like Lock in the second round.

The Flacco trade also means that the Broncos must get rid of Case Keenum via trade or releasing him.

Keenum had success under Giants head coach Pat Shurmur with the Minnesota Vikings and could become an intriguing option outside the draft for Big Blue.
