Joe Judge’s newest Giants coaching hire has intriguing title

INDIANAPOLIS – There are now so many coaches on Joe Judge’s first Giants staff that he is coming up with creative designations for them.

Judge on Wednesday officially announced the hiring of Amos Jones, who arrives with an interesting title: Assistant coach/special projects and situations. It is believed this description will include working closely with Judge on game management.

Jones, 60, and Judge, 38, worked together at Mississippi State from 2004-06, back when Judge was a player and later a graduate assistant coach.

“Amos is someone I’ve known for quite some time,” Judge said. “I have a high trust factor with him. He’s definitely somebody who has worked consistently throughout his career with a number of organizations dealing with situations. He’s got an eye for all sides of the ball. He’ll help with a lot of special projects that will come up throughout the season with evaluation of ourselves and our opponents.’’

Jones spent the past 13 years in the NFL, most recently with the Buccaneers as the assistant special teams coach. Jones played at Alabama for Bear Bryant and won back-to-back national championships with the Crimson Tide.
