Larry Fitzgerald thinks Odell Beckham Jr. will have less distractions with Browns than Giants

At least one respected league veteran believes a change of scenery will serve former Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. well.

Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald, speaking at the NFL’s Owners Meetings on Monday in Arizona, said that although the trade that sent Beckham to the Browns caught him by surprise, the move “can be great for him.”

“Getting to a smaller city where there’s just not as many distractions, he can focus on ball and really let his talents do the speaking for him,” Fitzgerald told “He’s with that group with [Jarvis] Landry, again they went to college together, so that could be a great, great combination with a rising quarterback [Baker Mayfield] as well.

“I don’t think I saw it coming. You heard the rumors swirling, but a player that’s that talented, I mean, he’s one of the best the game has seen what he’s done thus far in his career, and to think about him not wearing a Giants uniform is different.

One of the reasons the Giants dealt Beckham, despite his dynamic abilities on the gridiron, was that he’d become too much of a pain to deal with between his explosive sideline outbursts and consistent off-field antics.

But heading to Cleveland, which does not offer the same social atmosphere as New York, will give the star wideout a chance to focus on his game, Fitzgerald believes.
