NFL Draft expert Rich Cirminiello has a bold claim.
In five years, Dwayne Haskins will be a better quarterback than Kyler Murray.
Here’s why he thinks the Giants should select Haskins at No,. 6, including options they could tap into if they don’t take him there, as well as who Big Blue should target with the 17th overall pick.
Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State, QB
“I actually like Dwayne Haskins better than Kyler Murray. Five years from now, I think he’ll be the best quarterback out of this draft,” Cirminiello told SNY. “Great arm talent, just one year of experience. But has the moxie that you’re looking for.
“Go back to the tape from 2017 when he wasn’t the starter at Ohio State, when he came into the game against Michigan off the bench when J.T. Barrett was hurt. You never knew this kid was a backup. I like the maturity. I like the poise. Love what he has between the ears.”
Cirminello compared Haskins to Warren Moon and Ben Roethlisberger, while adding that he has Jameis Winston‘s body type without the undesirable decision-making skills.
Devin White, LSU, LB
Cirminiello described White as a freak athlete.
“Change of direction, football flexibility is off the charts,” he said.
Ed Oliver, Houston, DT
Oliver was a consensus top five pick heading into the season. He didn’t end the campaign at that caliber, but he’s worked his way back up during the pre-draft process.
“I think Oliver is being undervalued,” Cirminiello said.
Brian Burns, Florida State, DE (No. 17)
Cirminiello said Burns needed to gain weight after last season. He did that and didn’t lose a step on his speed rush and maintained his agility, while also increasing his strength.
Montez Sweat, Mississippi State, DE (No. 17)
“I just don’t like him at six,” Cirminiello said. “If you can get him at 17, great length. Scheme-versatile. … First step explosive. Reminds me a lot of Jadeveon Clowney.”
Clelin Ferrell, Clemson, DE (No. 17)
“Long arms, excellent power, humble kid,” Cirminiello said. “Talked to Dabo Swinney about him. He said he’s one of the most humble, hardest-working kids he’s had at Clemson. Outstanding run-stopper. Clelin Ferrell is more of a three-down defensive lineman.”
