NFL requests info from Cleveland police involving Giants’ Jabrill Peppers

The NFL requested two reports from Cleveland Police last week for information involving Giants safety Jabrill Peppers, one involving a stolen gun and the other a homicide of a 57-year-old woman, according to News 5 Cleveland.

Police said that Peppers is not a suspect in either incident.

A police source told News 5 Cleveland that Peppers was only a victim of the gun theft.

Per the report, which News 5 Cleveland obtained, someone broke into Peppers’ 2014 Range Rover and took a bag which had a jersey, sunglasses and an iPad in it and also stole a Glock semi-automatic handgun from the center console.

The leagued wanted “any and all documentation regarding the reported theft of items belonging to Jabrill Peppers…” as well as any “documentation indicating Peppers is not a suspect in the homicide.”

The NFL released a statement on Tuesday to clear any additional confusion.

“This was a routine request to review the police report,” an NFL spokesman said. “We would refer you to law enforcement for details about the matter. You may have seen that the Cleveland police department said Jabrill was not a suspect.”

The Giants also released a statement.

“We are aware of the situation in Cleveland. The NFL has been aware of this situation for some time. Jabrill is not the subject of an investigation by the Cleveland Police Department. For confirmation, see tweets from @CLEpolice.”

Marsha Carroll, a 57-year-old woman, was a possible suspect in the theft but was never arrested in connection with the stolen property.

On Feb. 6 she was found beaten and later died at a nearby hospital. Police arrested Deointa Campbell, a 26-year-old man, and charged him with murder and felonious assault.

Cleveland police have launched an internal investigation regarding their handling of the theft incident.

The Giants acquired Peppers earlier this month in a blockbuster trade that sent Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns.
