PORT ST. LUCIE — Count Noah Syndergaard among those perplexed by Odell Beckham Jr.’s trade to the Browns.
“He’s special,” the Mets right-hander said Wednesday. “I don’t know what the Giants are doing.”
Syndergaard grew up near Dallas, but says he doesn’t have a football allegiance. Even so, Syndergaard says he’s become a Baker Mayfield fan because of the manner in which the former Heisman Trophy winner competes and his mentality on the field.
“Maybe I will be a Browns fan,” Syndergaard said. “The Browns have sucked for such a long time that you can’t help but root for them.”
Syndergaard pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings against the Astros and allowed two hits and two walks. He has pitched to a 1.88 ERA in the Grapefruit League, with two appearances remaining this spring
