Odell Beckham Jr. on Giants’ chances of winning out: ‘It’s really only crazy until you do it’

Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. said his goal of winning out and making the playoffs, even when New York was 1-7, was a realistic goal.

Two wins later, he’s not backing down from it.

The Giants beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 38-35 on Sunday, their second straight victory after they entered the bye week on a five-game losing streak.

They’re still out of playoff position — three games behind the division-leading Washington Redskins and three games back of the Carolina Panthers, who currently hold the second wild-card spot, but Beckham still has his goal in mind.

“The goal is to win every game,” Beckham said, according to the New York Post’s Zach Braziller, after he totaled 74 receiving yards and a touchdown. “Six games left, it’s really only crazy until you do it.”

Is it possible? It didn’t seem so after the Giants lost seven of their first eight games of the season. Even with Beckham, No. 2 pick Saquon Barkley and key defensive players like Landon Collins and Alec Ogletree, the Giants had a minus-55 point differential heading into the second half.

“You heard Kevin Garnett. Anything is possible,” Beckham said on Nov. 9. “It’s not impossible to win eight games. It wasn’t impossible to lose seven, you know? So anything can happen, honestly.”

New York’s first step happened last Monday, when Eli Manning led a late game-winning touchdown drive to beat the San Francisco 49ers 27-23. Beckham, who scored two touchdowns that game, was humble after the Giants recorded their first win since Week 3.

“We got to win seven more, and whatever happens, happens,” Beckham said on Monday. “That’s all we can do, that’s the only focus we have. This is Game 1.”

Sunday was Step 2, and the Giants benefitted from the Redskins losing to the Houston Texans and the Philadelphia Eagles getting blown out by the New Orleans Saints.

But even so, that’s not to say their next steps will be easy. New York faces the Eagles and Redskins in two of the next three weeks and it ends the season against the Cowboys. It might be difficult, but Beckham’s mindset isn’t changing.

“It’s the same mentality every week,” Beckham said.

Added Collins: “We can make a run.”
