Every single thing New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. does immediately turns into headline news. No matter how simple or seemingly insignificant, the presence of a single emoji on his Twitter account is capable of sending the football world into a frenzy.

Such was the case on Sunday night when Beckham showed New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady some curious love on his Instagram account.

Brady shared a photo of his three children looking off at the sunset with the caption “Good Night Sun,” which led to a, “Love u brother” reply from Beckham.

Instantaneously, speculation ran rampant that Beckham wants to be traded to the Patriots, will be traded to the Patriots, was disrespecting the Giants, sharing some other hidden message or who knows what else. It became a, “I’m not saying it’s aliens, but it’s aliens” moment. Conspiracy theories were out of control in the blink of an eye.

Because Jay Glazer of FOX Sports recently made the “bold prediction” that Beckham would be traded this offseason — something that is not practical when breaking down the actual numbers — anything and everything Beckham does will be spun into something it’s not.

In reality, Beckham was probably just showing a little love to one of his friends and wishing them well. After all, he does mingle with the vast majority of NFL players and is well-liked by everyone not named Josh Norman.

At the end of the day, this is much ado about nothing, but that’s not the nature of Beckham’s superstardom. Anything he does or says is twisted out of control within mere seconds of it happening, and that’s likely how it will remain for the duration of his NFL career.
