One team reportedly has Daniel Jones No. 1 on their QB Draft board — is it the Giants?

The Giants have been rumored to be heavily interested in drafting Duke QB Daniel Jones. And according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo, one team has Jones as the No. 1 quarterback on their Draft board.

Is it the Giants?

Robinson certainly seems like he’s implying it’s them, ending his tweet about Jones by saying “And y’all know exactly who that team is.”

The Giants have been the team most closely linked to Jones, who could possibly be available when they make their second pick at No. 17 in six days. New York also has the No. 6 pick, and it would be shocking if Jones isn’t there at that point.

SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano had the Giants tabbing Jones at No. 17 in his Mock Draft 5.0, writing that the “chorus of people who think the Giants are really interested in the 6-foot-5, 221-pound Jones has grown louder in recent days.”

And GM Dave Gettleman spoke at length on Thursday about the quarterback class and the possibility of Big Blue drafting Eli Manning’s successor.

“There’s some really good quarterbacks in this class, yes,” Gettleman said, adding that “If we got a quarterback rated in the first round, we love him” — leading to speculation that the team could wait until the No. 17 pick to pounce on a QB.

Gettleman, who has expressed confidence that Eli Manning is still equipped to start not just this season but potentially beyond, wouldn’t put a level on the urgency the Giants have to draft Manning’s successor and also talked about the mental toughness needed to be a quarterback in New York.

“Being a QB in this market is a load — a mental load,” he said. “You’ve got to really vet the background of these guys. … You’ve got to have a mental toughness.”

Jones is viewed as mature and up to the task, and his physical and mental attributes could also appeal to Gettleman and Co.

“He has the prototypical quarterback frame at 6-foot-5, and has the desired arm strength from quarterbacks coming out of college,” SNY’s Scott Thompson wrote Thursday when discussing Jones’ pros and cons. “Jones also has the mind for the game, as scouts like how he reads his defense and runs through his progressions rather quickly.”

Drafting Jones would likely allow the Giants to put the “Kansas City Model” that Gettleman has talked about in place. Let him sit for a year and learn from Manning and then potentially take over in 2020 — or later this season if the Giants are out of contention.
