Potential Giants trade target Josh Rosen opens up about rumors

It’s officially one week until the 2019 NFL Draft kicks off in Nashville, and the Cardinals will be on the clock with the first overall pick. With that top selection, many believe Arizona is going to take dual threat QB Kyler Murray out of Oklahoma to lead Kliff Kingsbury’s offense in his first year as head coach.

And those speculations about Murray taking over have not gone over the head of the Cardinals’ current starter in Josh Rosen — the 2018 first-round pick the Cardinals traded up to get at No. 10.

Rosen has been going about his offseason like normal, but he is no stranger to the rumors involving him potentially being traded away. He admitted he has been keeping tabs on what’s been reported during a segment with Sports Illustrated

“I think when people talk about, ‘You can’t listen to criticism or don’t read articles,’ you have to be aware of what’s going on to a certain extent,” he said. “So like I definitely understand the situation. I mean, it’s annoying but it is what it is. Football’s a business and I definitely respect the higher-ups and their decisions.”

The latest buzz about Rosen came Thursday when the Cardinals released a promo video with their 2019 regular season schedule on it, and the UCLA product was nowhere to be found. As people picked up on it, the Cardinals pulled down the video from their Twitter, and released a new one with scenes of Rosen throughout.

The Giants have been among the teams connected to a possible Rosen trade, and GM Dave Gettleman was asked about that during media availability on Thursday in East Rutherford. As one would expect, he didn’t delve into the subject.

“Not going there,” he said.

But Big Blue has most likely been doing their work on Rosen to see if he’d be the right man to succeed Eli Manning, and give up draft stock in the process. Rosen played in 14 games with Arizona last season, but didn’t do anything eye-opening. Most of that was in part to his porous offensive line that gave up 45 sacks on the 22-year-old.

Still, Rosen thoroughly enjoyed his first season in the NFL.

“I think the season went as poorly as it could possibly go,” Rosen, who threw for 2,278 yards and 11 touchdowns, said. “But within that, I had an unbelievable time.”

But Rosen knows the bright lights and cheering fans could always change to a different city at any given time, which is why he will continue preparing for next season — no matter what team that happens to be for.

“The best advice I’ve ever gotten in life from so many different people is control what you can control,” he said. “And whatever decisions are made, it’s my duty to prove them right if they keep me, and prove them wrong if they ship me off.”
