Every year, Forbes compiles a list of the top 100 highest paid athletes in the world. This year, the list includes athletes from 10 sports across 25 countries.
The New York Giants have one player on this list: Saquon Barkley, who tracked in at No. 93.
Here’s what Forbes had to say about Barkley:
The New York Giants selected Barkley second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft and then signed him to a fully guaranteed four-year, $31.2 million contract.
Barkley led the league in all-purpose yards – he’s just the third rookie to ever eclipse 2,000 yards – and earned Rookie of the Year honors.
Stardom in the New York market has made Barkley a marketing darling, and he’s already nailed down deals with major brands like Pepsi, Toyota and Visa.
Heading into 2019, only five other running backs have higher average salaries than Barkley.
Last year, Barkely had an incredible season, accumulating 1,307 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 261 attempts, plus 91 receptions for 721 yards and four touchdowns. Needless to say, the Giants were extremely pleased with their rookie last year, who ended the season as the sixth overall running back in the league. His play on the field earned him the 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year award and showed the league why he was such a valuable pick.
Barkley is the only Giants player named to this list, just one more thing that sets him apart from the competition. He has a good head on his shoulders, makes good decisions, works hard on and off the field and represents the Giants uniform with class. He’s definitely proven he’s worth every penny the Giants are spending on him.
