Saquon Barkley, Aldrick Rosas react to Pro Bowl selections

Saquon Barkley trained in Orlando last offseason for the NFL combine, and got to see the NFL players who were selected to play in the 2018 Pro Bowl. Now, the New York Giants rookie running back will be a member of the 2019 NFC Pro Bowl team.

“It’s an amazing feeling, especially your first year to be selected into the Pro Bowl. Obviously I got to say thank you to all the fans, players, and coaches, it’s something that you dream about as a little kid,” Barkley said.

“I got to see those guys there last year and I remember saying in the back of your head that you want to be here one day and to be able to accomplish that as a rookie definitely means a lot, but you couldn’t do that by yourself. You got to give credit to your teammates and the coaches in this building also.”

With two games left in what is turning out to be a historic season, Barkley has no interest in seeing his workload lessened.

“I hope my workload is whatever it is to help the team win,” Barkley said. “Obviously I would never want my workload to decrease. I know people probably think that because we’re technically eliminated from the playoffs that ‘what are we playing for?’, but I don’t see it that way at all.

“We got two games left in our season that we get two games left for the rest of this year with the guys on your team, with the guys that you worked your tail off with all year to get to this point. You got to go out there and continue to fight obviously for yourself and just the competitive nature you have, but your teammates. I would love my workload to be whatever it can be to help the team win and if that’s, like I’ve said multiple times, if that’s 10 carries or if that’s 40 touches.”

Aldrick Rosas

Rosas is a Pro Bowler just a year after making only 18-of-25 field goal attempts, one of the worst percentages in the league. This season, he is 28-of-29 on field goals and 25-of-26 on extra points.

Rosas said it was “shocking” and “real special” to be selected.

“Given last year, just to be in the conversation this year was real special to me,” Rosas said. “All the credit to the snapper (Zak DeOssie) and the holder (Riley Dixon). These guys come in and work their tale off, and we have a lot of fun doing it.”

Rosas said he is still digesting his rise from NAIA placekicker to being considered the best in the NFC.

“It’s starting to kind of hit now in these last couple of hours, and even last night. Just how, NAIA and small high school, just to last year, to kind of now,” Rosas said. “The story is still kind of getting written.”
