Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins said “it’d be a dream come true” if the Giants drafted him next month.
The odds of that happening are favorable, according to one sportsbook.
The Giants are considered favorites to draft Haskins in the NFL Draft in April, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. New York’s odds are at +220, while the teams with the next-best odds are the Jaguars (+550), Redskins (+600) and Dolphins (+600).
FanDuel Sportsbook lists Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Kyler Murray and Ohio State pass rusher Nick Bosa as co-favorites to go No. 1 overall to the Arizona Cardinals.
NFL sources told SNY.tv’s Ralph Vacchiano they believe Arizona, which drafted quarterback Josh Rosen last year 10th overall, is targeting Murray with the first pick.
Murray, who is likely to be the first athlete to be a first-round draft pick in both the MLB and NFL drafts, said this weekend at the NFL Combine he thought he could be “very dangerous” in the Giants’ offense, which also features Odell Beckham Jr., Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram.
But Haskins, who threw for 4,831 yards, 50 touchdowns and eight interceptions for the Rose Bowl champion Buckeyes, also expressed such confidence, saying his inclusion with the Giants’ offense has the potential to be “very prolific.”
Several mock drafts, including those from Vacchiano, ESPN’s Todd McShay, Sports Illustrated’s Kalyn Kahler and ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., projected the 21-year-old Haskins going to New York at No. 6.
Haskins had a mixed showing at the combine, running the 40-yard dash in 5.04 and 5.06 seconds amid leg cramps — he is expected to run again at his pro day — but showing off his arm strength when throwing in front of scouts.
Giants GM Dave Gettleman said drafting Eli Manning‘s heir is a big decision because the Quarterback of the Future would be considered the “face of your franchise.”
The odds of that happening with Haskins appear to be high.
