We talk a lot about football and the New York Giants.

We talk about X’s and O’s, coaches and contracts, draft choices and personnel decisions. We talk about wins and losses as though we live and die by each one.

We don’t talk enough about the things that really matter, about the good that players and teams do with the platform that their money and national stage provide. In this case, the New York Giants are working to make a young man’s dreams come true and surprised a teen cancer survivor with Super Bowl tickets.

Joshua Rhodes, is a fairly normal teenager. He loves gaming and working out, going to escape room, watching the Fast and Furious movies, and eating pizza and Chik-Fil-A.

Two years ago was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 16. Joshua is a huge fan of the New York Giants and at the time of his diagnosis he played football for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. Of course, he had to give football up to fight cancer. And the year after his diagnosis he lost friends and his football coach in the Parkland shooting.

After a year no child should ever have to live through, it was a special treat when Giants’ defensive lineman John Jenkins and the Make-A-Wish foundation surprised Joshua with a make-over of his car in Giants’ colors.

Now 18, Joshua hopes to join the United States Coast Guard once he completes his cancer treatment — but he has still never been to a professional football game.

Radio.com Sports and the Giants teamed up to fix that. Representatives from the NFL joined Giants’ rookie defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence II in surprising Joshua with tickets to the Super Bowl on board a Coast Guard ship.

All too often we hear about the the negative things – the suspensions, the run-ins with the law, and the various disciplinary problems. It’s nice to hear about the positive impact the NFL and Giants are having in the community and around the country.

Also, thank you to Radio.com Sports for bringing Joshua’s story to our attention.
