If the New York Giants were to select a quarterback in the 2019 NFL Draft, retired wide receiver Victor Cruz would implore them to find a way to land Oklahoma gun slinger Kyler Murray.
Cruz believes Murray is a true competitor with undeniable intangibles, which would benefit the Giants when Eli Manning does eventually decide to walk away from the game.
“I love Kyler Murray. I just love his intangibles,” Cruz told the New York Post. “He pretty much checks all those boxes, although he’s not 6-4, he definitely checks all those boxes for me.”
The most underrated part of Murray’s game, Cruz says, are the things that don’t show up on the stats sheet or in the box score. In the eyes of the former Giants wide receiver, Murray in simply a winner through and through.
“I’m a guy that loves things that don’t show up in the stat sheet, things that guys see when they put their film on, ‘are you a winner?’ and things of that nature,” Cruz added.
Murray is widely expected to go No. 1 overall to the Arizona Cardinals, but they have cautioned against making such assumptions. And should they opt to pass on him, the Giants may very well leap.
Earlier this week, general manager Dave Gettleman & had Murray in for a private top-30 visit after having previously watched him at Oklahoma’s Pro Day. It could be due diligence or it could be more. You never really know with Gettleman.
As far as playing in New York, Murray previously said he’d welcome that with open arms.
“ love to be in New York. At the end of the day, I don’t pick myself,” Murray said at the 2019 NFL Combine in February.
